Midnight Hunter by Bonnie Bernard

Midnight Hunter (Midnight Hunter Trilogy #1) by Bonnie Bernard

Rating

(Overview)
Donna McCormick is a smart, pretty college student whose twenty-first birthday is a week away. Unfortunately, so is her murder - unless the mysterious man from the darkness can reach her first.

Donna is pursued in her dreams by a man who claims to be her Eternal Partner. During her waking hours, she’s cornered by another who claims to be the same. There’s only one problem: neither is entirely honest.

Or, for that matter, entirely human.

Eight years earlier, Donna’s life was dealt a terrible blow with the untimely death of a little brother who was left in her care. Ever since, Donna has yearned to get a normal life back – and despite her best friend Mo’s efforts to the contrary, Donna has almost managed it…at least until the Underworld cracks wide open, scattering chaos and spilling out every shifty force under the moon. Most of them want Donna dead, but some will stop at nothing to keep her alive.

Too bad she doesn’t know which is which.

With death following Donna like a shadow, she turns to her best friend for help. But instead of help, Mo offers only more mystery. And she knows more about the Underworld than she's willing to admit.

Now, Donna must choose: Cling to the mortal world where she feels safe, or embrace the Underworld where her dreams – and nightmares – come true.

One thing’s for sure - doing either one might get her killed in both.

Bonnie Bernard did a wonderful job writing this book, it is captivating and intriguing. Midnight Hunter will defiantly leave you wanting more!

Donna McCormick just wanted a normal life, after her little brother was killed in a car accent while she was watching him 8 years ago. Her 21st birthday is one week away; she’s currently a college student and is returning home after living on her own for a while. Donna is being pursued in her dreams by a man who claims to be her Eternal Partner. During her waking hours, she’s cornered by another who claims to be the same. There’s only one problem: neither is entirely honest, or human.. One will try to save her and one will try to kill her, but which one?  With death following Donna like a shadow, she turns to her best friend Mo for help. But Mo is a mystery also how does she know so much about the Underworld?  Things start to unravel  pretty quick and people who you thought where just normal people are not who they appear to be..
Donna must choose, either the mortal world where she so desperately wants a normal life or or embrace the Underworld where her dreams haunt her and nightmares come true. But where she also finds love. Doing either one might get her killed in both.

Indie Monday with Melissa Stevens

                                                            Change by  Melissa Stevens

(Overview)
A sudden life threatening injury turns Nickie’s world on its ear, but not in a way she ever would have predicted. Nickie finds out that not only do shape-shifters exist, but she is one. The Kitsune are a race of shape-shifters that have been living in secret alongside humans for centuries. As Nickie struggles to master her newly discovered shape-shifting and the abilities it brings her, she learns that some of the people in her life are far more than she knew.  Can Nickie handle all the changes headed her way on her own? Or does she have someone who can help her?

(Interview)

Today we have with us Melissa Stevens author of Change.

Can you tell us a little bit about your book’s?

Change is the beginning of a series, it's where we first meet Nickie. We follow her through discovering that shapeshifters exist and she is one and how she handles dealing with the changes that brings into her life.
Escape is an erotic short story set in the same world, but not a part of the series. It's just another glimpse into the world of the Kitsune.

What led you to self-publishing?

Simply put? Control. If I were to sign with a large publisher (and I'm not saying I won't in the future, I'm keeping my options open here) I would have to give up a lot. Including being certain of keeping my title and the ability to approve a cover. I didn't want to do that, at least not at this point.

What has been the biggest challenge in your writing/publishing life so far?
Family. It's not so simple to manage balancing my kids and my writing. They really don't understand if dinner's late because things were going really great while writing.

How do you manage your writing day? Do you write full time?
I have a daily word goal, sometimes that goal takes under an hour, sometimes it takes all day. But I do easily 90% of my writing while my kids are at school. Full time? It depends on how you look at it. I don't have another paying job, but I'm a stay a home mom, and we know that can be a full time job in itself.

Is there anything else you'd like us to know?

Actually, yes. I'm well on my way with Fight the sequel to Change. I'm hoping to have it published by the end of the summer.

I'd like to thank Melissa for being a part of our Indie Monday and for letting me Interview her! You can find Change at B&N, Amazon, Smashwords & Ibooks

Tangled Blood Lines by Deborah Noel

Tangled Blood Lines by Deborah Noel

Rating

(Overview)
This is not your sweet sparkling vampire story. Old school vampires have resurfaced, responsible for brutal murders and more blood than anyone can cope with. In "Tangled Blood Lines", Cianna Fitzgerald, a young but "retired" crime scene investigator, finds herself back in a world she walked away from some years ago.

She grew up in twentieth century Pennsylvania countryside knowing she possesses superhuman powers from her "Irish pixie" bloodlines. She had retired after a particularly tough case where the victim was her husband's twin brother. After her brief respite from murders and homicides, Cianna witnesses a killing where the murderer is a vampire. Her daughter goes missing soon after the killing. Cianna and the love she had once pushed out of her life, her estranged husband Declan, travel halfway around the world to try to save their child.

As the mystery unravels, she learns that although she is a half breed, the other half isn't "Irish pixie" as she grew up believing weaving her into a more tangled history and frightening future than she had bargained for.

(Review)
To be honest I’m not a big fan of gore or murder books.  It took me a bit to get into but when I did Tangled Blood Lines was a wonderful book. Deborah Noel did a great job writing, the plot was good and the charters where very well written you got to know and understand them and what they went though.  I will buy the next one I can’t wait to find out what happens, I will defiantly leave you wanting to know what happens next.

As you read you discover that the main characters Cianna and her estranged husband Declan are not ordinary folk. They powers that are passed down through the family, their  daughter Mattie has to be the sweetest little girl and very smart.
When Cianna's work related demons come back to haunt her and as she digs deeper she finds that her world is really a lie, that vampires really do exist and a long with them Werewolves, Witches and outher sups. These vampires are not the nice kind either, they are responsible for brutal murders and more blood than anyone can cope with. When Cianna and Declan’s Daughter Mattie is kidnapped they will do anything to get her back safe.  She will learn in the process what she is and what she can do. She was raised to believe she was one thing but the truth comes out and she has to come to terms with what she is. Will she embrace her future or will she rebel against it? Will she get what she loves most in the world back?

If you would like to read my review of Wander Dust it can be found HERE

Today we have with us Michelle Warren author of Wander Dust.

What would you like your readers to know about this book or you in general?

Wander Dust is a very unique YA Sci-Fantasy. There's an incredible, magical underground world to escape into. With that comes a new breed of paranormal characters: a Wanderer, a Protector, and a Seer. Hopefully, you'll read the book to learn more about their awesome sci-paranormal power!

What led you to self-publishing?

Originally, I did not intend to publish this book. It was something I wrote for myself as a place to escape some difficult times during the recession. However, I did share the story with my sister, Tabitha. She loved it and begged me to publish. This was an extremely scary thought. I could scarcely call myself an author when I had lived with the label of artist all my life.
With her prodding, I started considering publishing traditionally but only after some seriously arduous research. I stalked Nathan Bransford, Galley Cat, and many other publishing blogs, devouring every morsel of information I could get my hands on. My course was set until I read a blog post by an author who discussed her TEN year journey to become traditionally published. Her post made me realize that I wanted this to be a fun experience, not an agonizing “ten-year-journey to-get-signed-by-a-publishing-house” experience.
Becoming an Indie author was not a major stretch for me. I could easily see the value of self-publishing. After all, I’ve been selling my illustrations digitally with much success from many, many years without an agent. Although I would like readers to enjoy my book, the important part of my decision was making myself happy. That is why I chose to publish Indie.

Share the blurb from the book that you've written that you like best..
I love any scene between Bishop and Sera. There's always so much undecided tension between them.

"And the painting—it bears your name.” Bishop says my name slowly, gently, letting it roll from his lips, while annunciating each syllable, “Se-ra-phi-na.”

It’s as though I've never heard my own name before. The sound, so beautiful, so sweet, makes me close my eyes to hear it again in my mind. I inhale, holding my breath at the top of my chest. Being so close to him is like being under water. Submerged with the current pulling me deeper, farther out, and uncontrolled.

What has been the biggest challenge in your writing/publishing life so far?
When you're an Indie writer you are responsible for every job, not just writing. Designing covers, editing, social networking, and selling all keep me extremely busy. So to answer your question, the biggest challenge is juggling every aspect.

Is there anything else you'd like us to know?
Yes! Book two's cover and name will be announced this spring. If you are interested in Wander Dust, please join my on my FB page! I'm always hosting contests, giveaways, and sneak previews. See the book trailer, buy the book, or find me on social media on my website http://www.wanderdusttrilogy.com

Stephanie, thank you so much for the interview!

You're welcome Michelle I enjoyed your book and I can't wait for the next one!
